The Most Frequently Asked Question
What are dARTs? the short version
A New Medium for Art and Art Lovers in the 21st Century.
dARTs are artworks born digital, designed to be seen on screens, digital frames, or other displays, like smart TVs - all are their stage. They are not NFTs: they are not speculative tokens or market gimmicks, but authenticated, editioned works within the artist’s true practice, carrying provenance, authenticity, and scarcity just like other signed works. For collectors, dARTs offer the chance to own real, certified art that is both accessible and future-facing - a medium that expands artistic expression with the possibility of multi-view art, backlit grandeur, and with more to come, while remaining rooted in the traditions of Munch, Picasso, and Warhol who reworked ideas across media. To collect a dART is to own not a copy, but a pioneering work of art for the 21st century - scarce, meaningful, and part of art history in the making.
What are dARTs? The longer version
A dART is not a digital copy but a work born digital, a digital downloadable art medium which uses its inherent differences and flexibility to give a new experience.
Currently this means it gives the opportunity to create multi-aspect art, integrate backlighting, to display multiple viewpoints and more. Other features such as code integration to permit art that changes, and more such as sound, motion and even more are to soon be under development.
In short, the screen is a dARTs native stage, it place for flexible expression, but which all us to go way beyond a typical canvas, and it is a promise for more in the future. Like photography and video before it, it expands what art can be.
Artists have, after all, long reimagined ideas across media - Munch with The Scream in print, paint and more, Picasso through painting and ceramics, Warhol from Polaroid to silkscreen. The dART continues this lineage, offering fresh expression in the physical realm with digitally supported characteristics.
Through authentication and limited editions, dARTs establish provenance, authenticity, and scarcity, making them collectible like signed prints when offered as editions. They can also be produced as 'one of one' though this is not an advantage in terms of the overall art market.
DARTs are a new frontier rooted in art’s enduring tradition. The age of the creative has begun.
