Ines Hildur

Working between structure and contingency, Ines Hildur builds abstract surfaces through layering, material traces and erasure. Trained in architecture, she brings a strong sense of proportion, rhythm and spatial balance to a painting practice that deliberately leaves room for uncertainty and transformation.

Her works develop through successive layers of water-bound colour, stone and chalk dust, ash, collage and other material interventions. Surfaces are built, covered, exposed and reworked, retaining the marks of their own making rather than resolving into fixed or seamless images.

Weathered walls, patina, damaged surfaces and traces of use are recurring points of departure. Reduced and muted colour ranges, often moving towards black, white and near-neutral tones, allow texture, interruption and material difference to become structural elements within the work.

Hildur’s paintings move between control and accident, using the discipline of architecture while resisting predetermined outcomes. Fragment, surface and empty space remain active, allowing each work to operate simultaneously as image, material field and spatial proposition.
